Records Request Filed: What's Adams 14 Paying to Defend Racial Slurs?
The Snoot Report filed a Colorado Open Records Act request Sunday asking Adams 14 to disclose legal bills related to what sources are calling “The Lucy Lawsuit” — the federal civil rights case that Board Member Lucy Molina definitely doesn’t want anyone talking about.
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — In a shocking development that surprised no one, Colorado’s worst-performing school district is now being asked to reveal how much taxpayer money it’s spending to defend a board member who responds to data with racial slurs.
“We just want to know if the district is spending more on lawyers than textbooks,” said a spokesperson who doesn’t exist because this is satirical framing of a real records request. “It’s a simple question.”
The Math Problem Adams 14 Can’t Solve
Here’s the word problem:
- If District A ranks last in Colorado
- And District A is paying lawyers $XXX per hour
- To defend Board Member B who calls journalists “wera”
- How many classroom supplies could that money have bought?

What We’re Looking For
Our CORA request seeks boring financial documents that definitely won’t show anything interesting like:
- How much Caplan & Earnest LLC is billing per hour to defend racial slurs as “free speech”
- Whether insurance is covering Lucy’s legal fees or if it’s coming from the education budget
- If defending the right to give whistleblowers a 3-year ban costs more than new computers
The Timeline That Matters
| April 2025: | Craig Kim gets banned from schools |
| Also April: | Kim sues for civil rights violations |
| October: | Molina calls people investigating this “wera” |
| Also October: | Someone finally asks about the bills |
Why This Is Definitely Not A Story
District officials haven’t responded yet, presumably because they’re busy:
- Not answering why they rank last
- Not explaining the legal costs
- Not addressing the racial slurs
- Not providing those secret recordings Lucy mentioned
“There’s nothing to see here,” Molina didn’t say, because she was too busy typing “PAID SLANDERERS” in all caps on Facebook at 1 AM.
The Bottom Line Colorado Taxpayers Deserve
Every dollar spent defending “YOU DON’T scare me wera” is a dollar not spent on education. In a district that ranks dead last, where the board member who claims everyone else is corrupt can’t win an actual election.
The Snoot Report has requested these public records under Colorado law. Adams 14 has three business days to respond. The #LucyLawsuit coverage continues.
